Human Foods That Are Dangerous For Cats

While dogs can lap up pretty much whatever table scraps you give them, felines are a bit picky. But this does not mean that your cat won’t nibble a bit of your food if the mood strikes. Not every type of human food that your cat wants to eat is good. Give the cats the wrong food and their digestive system will go for a toss. Here’s are seven main human foods for cats to avoid.

Caffeine
It’s essential to keep your cat away from your morning cup of joe. Tea, coffee, soda, or any caffeine-based food or beverages can cause toxicity in cats. Your cat may show symptoms of hyperactivity, tremors, and increased heart rate. Felines are also known to experience seizures and breathing difficulties if caffeine becomes a regular part of their diet. Although a quick slurp or lick of your coffee won’t do any harm, tea bags and raw coffee must be kept away.

Chocolates
You probably love to indulge in the occasional chocolate indulgence. While it might be a good source of antioxidants for you, never hand out chocolate treats to your feline pet. Chocolates contain a high percentage of methylxanthine. In cats, this substance causes increased thirst, abnormal heart rhythm, muscle tremors, diarrhea, vomiting, and high body temperature. The darker variety of chocolate is more harmful than white and milk variety.

Dairy Products
Cats do like milk, but it is not generally good for them. Felines are generally lactose intolerant. It is only when they’re kittens that their digestive systems can tolerate the lactose from their mother’s milk. Also, this is just for a few weeks. While some cats can easily digest milk and dairy products, most felines may have diarrhea or an upset stomach.

A large quantity of these foods or even concentrated variants such as soup mixes or powders can prove to be poisonous for your cat. If your cat happens to eat these vegetables, you may notice that orange or red urine, pale gums, less appetite, lethargy, and weakness.

Grapes and Currants
If cats accidentally munch on raising, currants, or grapes, they will immediately fall sick. These foods can cause kidney disorders in your cat. Although some cats do not show any symptoms, eating grapes and raisins may cause vomiting in some cats. This may be accompanied by diarrhea, abdominal pain, reduced appetite, and decreased urination

Raw Dough
The yeast in raw pizza or bread dough releases carbon dioxide and alcohol. These cause serious complications in a cat. Moreover, the raw dough can rise or expand in your feline’s stomach. This may require surgical intervention to remove the raw dough.
