Healthy Snacks for Kids
Getting hold of kids for a meal can be a serious challenge for many. On most days, they have too many activities lined up, making it difficult for them to sit down for an elaborate, healthy meal. And then there are those odd hours at which they feel hungry, but it’s cumbersome—if not virtually impossible—to draw strength to cook a full-course meal then. This is when quick snack ideas come in handy, as they can be filling and nutritious at the same time. Some of these, as mentioned below, are super easy to make and extremely convenient to consume.
Chickpeas
Nine out of ten parents feed their kids chickpeas as a quick snack. The legume can be heated in an oven and served directly or in a sandwich or wrap. It’s delicious, easy, and carries an incredible amount of minerals and vitamins. The high fiber content in the snack has tremendous benefits, one of them being that it helps improve digestion. Kids can have this dish even while playing or studying, which can make up for the time they may have lost during lunch or dinner.
Sweet potato fries
Everyone loves fries. Kids are even more fond of these, and would happily trade their boring lunch for a bowl (or more) of these crunchy edibles. Sweet potato is a worthy ingredient to use, as it supports healthy vision and enhances brain function—two things that are extremely crucial in children. Heat the vegetable in the oven and cut it into long pieces, followed by a thorough mixing with a few spices.
Pretzel sticks with cheese dip
Kids will be addicted to this super-fast snack if you make it right. Pretzel sticks are incredibly tasty, with melted cheese adding further taste. Nutritionally, pretzels aren’t too far behind as well, as they are packed with zinc, folate, fiber, and a little amount of protein. Pretzels can be shaped in a number of ways, with cheese either stocked inside them or as small cheese cubes placed on the heads of little pretzel sticks.
Carrot sticks with hummus
This snack can be prepared in under 30 minutes and is a good option if your kid has missed lunch or dinner. Carrots are among the most nutritious vegetables as they provide fiber, potassium, and a range of antioxidants that help kids in their overall growth. They go especially well with hummus, which is rich in fiber and protein. To make the dish tastier, roast the sticks with some turmeric, pepper, and salt.
Frozen blueberry bites
Kids absolutely love this snack and do not mind pausing their activities for it. It is also quite easy to prepare—blueberries are dipped in yogurt and then left to freeze. As far as their nutritional value is concerned, blueberries aid in bone growth and improve eyesight.
